Introducing Team Ánemos.

Inspired by the limitations of the existing wind tunnel at Rice, a group of Rice Wind Energy members set out to build their own.

A Wind Tunnel for the 21st Century

The New Rice Wind Tunnel

Led by members of Rice Wind Energy, Team Ánemos is a group of undergraduate engineers working to develop the New Rice Wind Tunnel for Rice University: a modern, high-precision wind tunnel built to foster new possibilities in research, engineering design, and academic instruction previously impossible at Rice.

Test Section Area

48″ x 48″ x 96″

Flow Rate

0–22 m/s (0–50 mph)

FLow Volume

70,000 CFM

Motor Power

75 HP

9x Testing Cross Sectional Area

Designed in direct consultation with NREL, the test section of the New Rice Wind Tunnel is built with the CWC in mind. At 4 x 4 ft., its cross-sectional area is over 9x larger than that of the existing wind tunnel at Rice, allowing for greater testing possibilities, superior visibility, and improved flow laminarity.
